Blue and Gold

This weekend I made these two cards. I was inspired by another scrapping blogger, Scrapperlicious. These were fun to make. I used distress ink to make the blue and gold backgrounds. Then used my cuttlebug embossing envelope to add the leaves. I used chalk ink to accent the leaves. The "M" (for Mom) and "G" (for grandma) was accented with Perfect Pearls in Patina. I also used a touch of glimmer mist to add shimmer. I'm really excited at how they turned out! More to come....

Rain Layout

I completed a new layout, and my first posted one on here!

Heather and I spent a day sightseeing in Brighton, England. While we were inside touring the Royal Pavilion, what we like to call "Hurricane Brighton" hit! We had to maneuver around the city in pouring rain and violent winds. By the end of the day my umbrella was blown out several times and we were soaked to the bone. You couldn't do anything but laugh about it!
For the base is regular cardstock. I layered on top of that a water drop themed paper and used my edge distresser and ink to add dimension to the edges. With distress ink and a water distress technique I made the top layer. For an extra special touch I sprayed with Glimmer Mist in Patina.

I took scraps of the distressed paper and punched out butterflies. I inked the edges and used stickles in Turquoise to make the details. I folded the wings up and used "rain drops" for the bodies.

This was my first layout using a Tim Holtz mask. I love the effect over the layers of paper!!

I liked the masking technique so much that I cut a title with my Cricut Storybook font and used it as a mask as well! My ink pad left lines, which I ordinarily wouldn't like, but this time looked like sheets of rain!
This was so much fun to do!

Wilton Cake Course 1 Graduate!

This week has been so exciting! On Tuesday I had my very first Zumba class....if you haven't tried it, you should! I love Latin dance and Latin music, so it was fun! I recognized almost every song (if you can believe that!) and had a great time dancing, laughing and burning 500 calories and hour!!
Wednesday was my last class Wilton Course 1 class and we decorated our Grand Finale Cakes. We had a choice of several styles and colors. I chose an all white cake and added purple luster dust to my roses. I cant wait to make more cakes!

I also had enough left over batter to bring in extra treats for the guys at work and a co-worker who was having a birthday this week.

Can't wait to see what adventures this weekend brings!

Customer Appreciation Toot!

Today I got the coolest thing in the mail, a Customer Service Award from the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC)! Since I work at the airport I am required to wear whats known as a SIDA security badge. All airport employees wear them. However, when an employee leaves their job they have to turn them in. If they dont, they are considered outstanding and a potential security threat. Over the last year the MAC has had an increased amount of vendors with outstanding badges. We were one of those vendors, so I made all kinds of efforts,(including tracking down an ex-employee's wife and driving 30 minutes on my own time to meet her and get the badge back!) to recover these badges. After a year of hard work I was able to get our company off the "black list" and back in good standing. Last week, at the MAC Quarterly Meeting they awarded me with an outstanding service award for contributing to the safety and security of the Minneapolis/St Paul Airport. Unfortunately I was out of the office on the day of the meeting, so I missed the public announcement. But it was a great suprise to get in the mail today! So, if I do say so myself....Yay Me!

First Post!

Good evening everyone! It is my official first post on my new blog! I've decided to share my creative hobbies along with a sprinkling of the randomness that is my life.

I'm working on some new scrap pages to post on here. Some of the products I'm very excited to experiment with Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, and my new shipment of Prima Flowers! New posts about that to come soon.

I am also taking a Michael's Cake Decorating Class. I am having a blast! This week will be my last week of Class 1. Today I worked on my Wilton Roses in preparation for class. I'll post my Grand Finale Cake later this week. But first, lets take a look back to my week one cake....the Care Bear. Here I am with my little bear with his crumb coat:

We had an hour and half in class to work on our cakes. I had to use a star tip and pipe tiny little stars, close together to fill in this cake. By the end of class I thought my hand was going to fall off, and I only had the backside of him done.

However, I was determined to finish him, so the next day I spent another hour and a half piping stars onto the front of him. I added in all of the little details. Just when I thought it would never be finished, I piped on his eyes and Voila! He was complete. However, I must have been tired because he turned out cross-eyed!!

Overall, I was quite pleased with myself. In case you're wondering, he was a butter pecan cake with vanilla buttercream. Delicious!!
Wish me luck on my grand finale!
